Workplace Giving Australia Leadership Reflections: A Call for Corporate Action

As we enter Workplace Giving Month, I am conscious of the incredible impact we can make through corporate giving initiatives.

Every year, the workplace giving month of June serves as a timely reminder of the power we hold as an organisation to create positive change and leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve. Let’s embrace this opportunity to strengthen our commitment to social responsibility and rally behind the spirit of workplace giving.

I am a strong believer in the power of the collective to make change. It may start with one or two people, but others want to belong and will be inspired by your spirit and example.

Harnessing the Collective Power

At Workplace Giving Australia, we firmly believe that workplace giving is not just an act of generosity but a strategic tool for community engagement and employee empowerment. As individuals we are already active and in most cases so are our employer organisations. However, it is through the collective power of an organisation, including ours, working with us as individuals that we can significantly increase our impact and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The 13.8 million strong Australian workforce has the strength to change the landscape, not only for charities, but for the community more broadly while making better workplaces for the workforce. Encouraging employers to match the efforts of their people and creating a focus on giving to increase participation has an immediate and positive impact. And, with over 70% of employees expecting to work for an organisation that supports charities, there are obvious benefits to employers which are genuinely wanting to create great places to work, enabling, amplifying and promoting workplace giving benefits the workers, the business, charities and the wider community.

Maximising Our Impact

During Workplace Giving Month, we have a voice we can use to maximise our impact. As I reflect, there are a few ways we can come together to make the most of this important month:

  1. Lead by Example: As the leaders in the workplace giving space, it is vital that we set the tone for workplace giving. I would love all of you to participate in our corporate giving program and communicate your commitment to making a difference. Your active involvement will inspire and motivate others to follow suit.
  2. Engage Others: Employees are the heart and soul of Australian organisations, and their engagement is crucial to successful workplace giving. Let’s foster a culture of giving by communicating clearly about programs, sharing success stories, and encouraging employees to expect and demand the opportunity for them to participate in charitable activities and events.
  3. Collaborate with Community Partners: Building strong partnerships with community organisations and charities is vital to making a significant impact. By working closely with these organisations, we can leverage our resources and expertise to address critical social issues effectively.
  4. Recognise and Celebrate: Recognising and celebrating incredible achievements made possible through our collective giving efforts is essential. Acknowledge generosity, highlight milestones reached, and showcase tangible outcomes of giving programs.

As we embark on Workplace Giving Month, let’s embrace the spirit of giving and unleash the power of organisations to create a positive and lasting impact. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need, strengthen corporate culture, and exemplify a commitment to social responsibility. I am excited to witness the transformative change we can achieve when we unite behind the cause of workplace giving.
