Message from Monique Keighery – Charity Task Force Chair and CEO, Redkite

June’s Workplace Giving Month could not come at a more important time for the charity sector. It has been a tough couple of years through the uncertainty of COVID that saw increased need for many organisations in a challenging fundraising environment. Furthermore, charities are continually managing the impacts of natural disasters such as floods, bushfires, drought, and devastation internationally like the war in Ukraine.

In such an unsettled environment, the reliability of workplace giving is something to be celebrated. I can’t stress how important workplace giving donations are to the charity sector with the significant power of collective giving and impact.

I have seen firsthand at Redkite, and through the stories shared by other Charity Taskforce members, how we can all make a difference – no matter how big or small our donations. Often, workplace giving donations are the only ‘untied’ source of funds that charities receive. This goes a long way in ensuring funds can be directed where the most urgent needs are and where they can make the biggest difference.

Workplace giving month is an opportunity to celebrate those organisations who make workplace giving a part of their culture. It is a time to recognise the engaged and generous team members who are supporting important causes across Australia and beyond every day. When you combine all workplace giving donors across the country, these team members are contributing over $50 million per year. And that’s before the company adds its matching and other activities such as fundraising events!

So, on behalf of the charity sector, and in celebration of June Workplace Giving Month, I thank you for championing your organisations’ workplace giving programs and for donating generously yourself. Let’s make a noise this month to inspire greater participation at the organisational and individual levels. Your support, when combined with your peers, can make a transformational difference.
