Embrace the Power of Workplace Giving: A Call To Corporate Australia As EOFY Approaches

June is Workplace Giving Month, and as the leading advocate for workplace giving, Workplace Giving Australia urges all corporations in Australia to reevaluate their workplace giving and corporate philanthropy initiatives as the end of the financial year (EOFY) approaches. The June theme of “Small Change. Big Impact.” emphasises the profound influence of collective action, and even the smallest contributions or habits can create a significant effect when embraced by charities and employers.

The Power of Workplace Giving

Workplace giving offers advantages that extend beyond good corporate citizenship and taxation benefits. Recent research from our organisation demonstrates that it addresses workforce expectations and contributes to talent retention. According to the survey, an overwhelming 85% of respondents believe it is personally important for companies to have a workplace giving program. By matching staff donations, employers could unlock an additional $1 billion annually for charities if each employee contributes just one extra dollar per week. Moreover, 66% of employees stated that they would increase their donations if their employer matched their contributions. Additionally, 64% of survey participants reported that they are more likely to support companies leading in philanthropy by purchasing their products or services.

Creating Great Places to Work

Workplace Giving Australia CEO David Mann highlights the significant benefits for employers aiming to create exceptional work environments, with 85% of employees expressing a desire to work for organisations that support charities. Embracing workplace giving benefits not only to the workforce but also the business, charities, and the wider community. By enabling and promoting workplace giving, employers can foster a positive work culture while making a tangible impact on society.

Join the Movement

This June, Workplace Giving Australia, along with numerous Australian corporations, is celebrating Workplace Giving Month. The campaign invites employees, managers, and organisations nationwide to give within the workplace, supporting beloved charities and making a meaningful difference in local, national, and international communities. Individuals can participate in various ways, such as donating through work, volunteering, fundraising activities, and taking advantage of donation matching programs offered by organisations. By aligning efforts, the workplace can become a hub of philanthropic giving, transforming the lives of those in need.

The One Million Donors Campaign

As part of the ongoing One Million Donors campaign, Workplace Giving Month aims to raise awareness among Australian employees about the benefits of workplace giving. By fostering an expectation for employers to provide programs that facilitate giving, the campaign seeks to enable corporations and their staff to support charities effectively. Engaging Australian workers in workplace giving increases philanthropic contributions and integrates giving into their everyday lives, fostering a strong sense of community within the workplace.

Harnessing the collective power of corporate philanthropy and the 13.8 million-strong Australian workforce has the potential to transform the charitable landscape and create better workplaces for employees. As EOFY approaches, Workplace Giving Australia encourages corporate Australia to seize the opportunity to embrace workplace giving, magnify its philanthropic impact, and pave the way for positive change within its organisations and communities. Together, we can make a significant difference and create a brighter future through the power of workplace giving.
