06 Limitations
Resource and time constraints limited the sample size
of the research study. The project only ran for 14 weeks. Survey results were collected in five weeks and interviews were conducted over three weeks. This limited the number of survey responses collected; a greater number of responses would have increased the accuracy of the study. It would also have captured a broader and more reliable understanding of Young Australians’ engagement with WGPs, even though the results that were collected were generally very consistent. Furthermore, the survey was principally distributed amongst employers with WGPs, even though the majority of Australian workplaces do not have WGPs.
The smaller sample size also resulted in an unrepresentative sample demographic. For example, the survey sample was made up of 70% female respondents and 30% male respondents. Furthermore, the number of Young Australian respondents aged between 25 to 35 years old doubled those between 15 to 24 years old.
Additionally, the majority of interviewees did not have a WGP at their workplace. This would have influenced the findings through the qualitative interviews.
